General Information
The Competition
The Competition will consist of three separate rounds: Round I, Round II and Round III (Final). Round I will include a recital only. Round II will have two phases: recital of a commissioned work (piano, violin and cello only) and chamber music. Round III (Final) will include accompaniment by a full symphony orchestra.
Dates
The competition is scheduled for June 14 – July 2, 2011. Moscow will play host to the pianists and cellists June 15 through 30 and to a Closing Gala Concert on July 1. The violinists and vocalists will compete June 16 through 30 and June 22 through 30, respectively, in St. Petersburg, where a Closing Gala Concert will take place on July 2.
The competition application deadline of December 15, 2010, has now passed, however, applicants still have the ability to pay fees in the online application system.
Prizes
The Organizing Committee for the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition will announce five prizes for piano, five prizes for violin, five prizes for cello, four prizes for male singers and four prizes for female singers. Only one Grand Prix winner among all first prize winners might be announced.
Grand Prix 10,000 Euro may be granted in addition to the First Prize;
First Prize** 20,000 Euro and Gold Medal;
Second Prize 15,000 Euro and Silver Medal;
Third Prize 10,000 Euro and Bronze Medal;
Fourth Prize 5,000 Euro and Diploma;
Fifth Prize 3,000 Euro and Diploma;
Best chamber concerto performance 2000 Euro and Diploma;
Best performance of the work specially written for the Competition 2000 Euro and Diploma;
Two performers designated by the Jury in each discipline who do not advance to Round III will be awarded a Diploma and 1,000 Euro.
*All prize amounts are indicated net of Russian national and local taxes.
**First Prizes are always awarded.
Age
Pianists, violinists, and cellists must be between sixteen years of age and thirty years of age on the date of the opening of the competition. For singers, the ages are between nineteen and thirty-two.
Travel & Accommodation
The Organizing Committee will pay the competitors for a round-trip economy class air ticket or train ticket from their place of residence to Moscow in an amount not to exceed 700 Euro, on the condition that they submit a receipt or invoice.
All competitors and their accompanists (pianists) will be provided with hotel accommodations and meals during the period from June 12 until two days following their official participation in the Competition. However, competitors will be responsible for their own accommodations on any days falling outside of this time period.
In the event that a competitor has arrived in Moscow but refuses to participate in the Competition the competitor will be responsible for all travel and hotel expenses.
Foreign Competitors
Foreign competitors will be responsible for obtaining their passports and any necessary visas. They should apply at the nearest Russian Consulate upon receiving a formal invitation to the Competition.
The Organizing Committee will not secure any insurance for competitors, their accompanists and other accompanying persons.
All information contained in the application section of this website was correct at the time of publication. However, the Organizing Committee reserves the right to make changes if circumstances dictate but not later than two months before the Competition. In any difference between translations of texts and rules, the Russian language is definitive.
